An Exceptional Snow Record

Ok, so there's the exceptional snow record... being high at 1850 metres means great snow earlier and for longer especially on the Fornet and Grand Motte glaciers. The season starts earlier than almost everywhere else and the early seson powder is often epic. In the spring follow the sun to find some of the most stunning piste and backcountry spring telemark skiing on the planet.

From easy piste skiing high up in the Solaise and Bellevarde bowls, which are perfect for working on your telemark technique, to long steep challenging descents back into the valley, soft bumps in the sun, tree lined runs, Val d'Isere has all the terrain any telemark skier could ever need. All served by a world class network of modern chair lifts to give those legs a break between runs.

State of the Art Lift System

It's not just about a great lift system but the fact that the system is dominated by chair lifts. This avoids the hassle of continually taking your skis on and off, a bane for the telemark skier. Val d'Isere's modern lift system is second to none and means both a quick turnaround and plenty of options for your next run. Take the Olympique de Bellevarde for example - 8 minutes to climb 900 vertical metres, beaten only by the Funiculaire in La Daille - 5 mins for the same elevation!

Backcountry Telemark Skiing - Variety is the Spice of Life!

Backcountry Telemark Skiing, Off-Piste Telemark Skiing - call it what you like! All I can say is - that it's the best lift accessed off-piste telemark skiing in the world. For example, from the valley floor take the Solaise Chair, 900 vertical metres and 8 minutes later and you can choose any one of a huge variety of off-piste routes on virtually any aspect - check our Danaides into Lavancher Couloir video. Variety is the spice of life, and that's just one lift out of ninety!

Telemark ski Touring

Want to go further afield? So much to do, so little time! From short 30 minute hikes like the Mont-Roup sitting behind the beautiful Charvet, which accesses some stunning but quiet east facing slopes, to longer more challenging tours like the majestic Sana (3400m), the telemark ski touring opportunities are endless. With a network of huts dotted around the area, it's easy to turn your telemark tour into a telemark adventure.
